I took up photography many years ago & got really into it around the time digital started taking over. I’m a member of the Drogheda Photographic Club & have made many friends there over the last 5-6 years. I really enjoy the Thursday night meetings (and the trip to the pub afterwards if the truth be known).

It was through the Irish photography website pix.ie that I got invited to the 2009 Dublin St. Patrick’s day parade. We got access to a VIP area in front of Mary McAleese etc on O’Connell St. This was the 1st time I ended up meeting fellow photographic nuts from across the country. I really enjoyed the day & the party laid on my pix.ie in the Guinness Storehouse that evening. From that point on, I was hooked.

Since then, I’ve been on many more organised photowalks, including the Scott Kelby Dublin photowalk, the Drogheda photowalk, the ‘Living History’ photowalk in Co. Meath, two brilliant walks at Mondello Motor Racing circuit, a snow-covered Botanical Gardens & a day in Dublin including the Phoenix Park & Smithfield.
Why do I like photowalks? I get to meet a great bunch of guys & gals that have the same passion for taking photographs. I have learned so much from these days out as generally, I get to move out of my comfort zone & take photos of different things. A great example of this was the two racing days at Mondello, Japfest & Mondello Masters. With the use of Twitter & Facebook, we’ve been kept updated & invited to most of these photowalks. I really don’t know how they would have been organised without the use of these social networks.
When one photowalk ends, it’s a rush home to get working on the photos, put a few up on pix.ie & my photoblog & look forward to the next one.
