Time to take the Photowalk.ie show on the road again. This time to the amazing karst landscape of The Burren in County Clare. Let your inner geology nerd rejoice and come join us for a couple of days in one of the most amazing places in Ireland.

We’ll meet in the popular surfing town of Lahinch on Saturday morning and from there we can make our way around the coastline and visit attractions including the Poulnabrone Dolmen, The Cliffs of Moher, Ailwee Caves, Poulawack cairn, Leamanagh Castle and more. A sample route will be made available but as this is going to be pretty much self-guided, you can feel free to stray from the route as you wish.

Book accommodation early, there is no shortage of decent places to stay (to suit every budget) in & around Lahinch. Do try to stay in Lahinch however, you wouldn’t want to miss out on the trip to the pub on Saturday night ;)

A list of contact details for hotels, guesthouses and B&B’s is available here

To help those photowalkers that may not have access to cars or any other convenient way of taking part in this event, I’d like to ask anyone that is attending and driving to the event to leave a comment indicating if you can take passengers. Specifically, how many people you have room for and where you are coming from. Thanks!

Hope to see you all there and remember; With the M6, it’s really not that far away from Dublin anymore!

Note: If you intend or are currently undecided on going on this trip, I suggest you book accommodation early. Although there is loads of accommodation in the town, it fills up quickly and there is already an event on in & around Lahinch the weekend of the 22nd/23rd May.

Update 20th May: We’ll meet in the car park at the beach at Lahinch. It’s not hard to find, it’s in the middle of the town. However, if you get lost or are going to turn up late, the usual phone number is available. In case you haven’t saved it to your phone yet, that number is +353 86 1551616

Had a great time, with great weather & people bring on the next one. My shots of the day are up on http://www.pix.ie/trishw78

Thanks to all who attended, this was a very pleasant photowalk around the Clare coastline, in gorgeous sunshine, taking in many beautiful features including castles, abbeys, dolmens and the like. Rounded nicely off by a meal, chat and a drink or two. May the weather be as good for the next one.

As usual I will post a few photos on my photoblog: http://rorywallace.com/blog

Not sure how I missed this until now!

It’s right on my doorstep but I have some stuff planned for the morning. Depending on how it goes I might give you guys a call on the bat phone and see where you are in the afternoon.

Well folks, enjoy your weekend. Sorry I couldn’t make this one but it just happened to clash with our camera club weekend away to Achill. Weather is looking good so hopefully plenty of pics.

  8. stephen says:

Yay, looks like I can make it. Will drive down early Saturday morning. Have room for 3 if anyone’s stuck for a lift – leaving from Stillorgan, via Sandyford, Red Cow etc etc…

  9. dakar says:

I’m afraid I’m going to have to pull out of this one :(

    See you next time.

Thanks Ben, some handy links & info there

  11. Ben says:

Oh, and the Doolin caves (http://www.doolincave.ie/) are much better than the Ailwee caves IMHO, but less accessible! And I mean disclosure, not disclaimer in my last comment!

  12. Ben says:

Just to say, there is a “tea rooms” in the Fr. Ted house, but this must be booked in advance. There is a good holiday cottage http://www.burrenfarmcottages.com/ (disclaimer: my aunt and uncle own it) about 10 minutes by car away from Lehinch. I’m really sad I can’t make it, it’s one of my favourite locations for photowalking!

  13. John Fair says:

Sod it, I am working that weekend and then I’m off to the Burren the following weekend for a week in Ballyvaughan! Sorry to miss this get together, have a good one all. Great thing is though, I get to see all the great places you found before my trip! Ha, hah! :o )

  14. trishwalsh says:

    I’m coming. I’m coming tooo…. I got accommodation in Cois Farraige €40 065 7081580 I don’t think she has many rooms left.

  15. stephen says:

Excellent choice! Count me in – well, ok, I counted myself in :-)

  16. Vlastik says:

Father Ted’s house is not so far away either. And after a phone call in advance, you might get even the chance to go in for a visit, if the family living there agrees. But the inside does not look like from the TV set.

  17. dakar says:

Great choice of venue, count me in. I’ll have the car for ferrying people around Clare and will be travelling from Sligo if anyone needs a lift.

  18. pullandbang says:

Damn and double damn – clashes with camera club weekend away in Achill. :-(
