Photowalk: Airfield Farm, 24th April

Wildflower meadow at Airfield

It’s time to get your permission slips in order for the April photowalk, which will be taking place at Airfield Farm in south county Dublin. In fact of all the photowalks so far, this is probably one that you won’t need a permission slip for. Bring the kids, bring the wife, bring all the cousins, aunties and uncles if you want to.

Airfield is a great spot for photos of everything from flowers and farming to those cutesy little lamb photos you know well you’ll be posting online for months to come. It’s show of hands time so to that end, click join if you intend on coming on this photowalk. You’ve got a bit of time yet, but at the start of the second week of April I’d like to let Airfield know exactly how many people will be descending on them. To that end, entry fee will depend on number attending. Which is why I’m leaving it till the second week of April to get all the numbers in.

No, you’re not going mad. Date changed to one week later. Apologies if this screws up anyone’s availability.

Update, 23rd April: The price for entry to the photowalk location tomorrow has been set at €3 per person. Many thanks to Airfield for putting on this special rate for us. As some of you appear to have worked out already, there is a very handy little picnic area at Airfield so if the weather plays nicely (and looking outside for the last couple of days, hopefully it will) feel free to bring assorted food & drinks of your choosing.

Following the photowalk, if people wish to return to the city center for post walk drinks, we can decide on a venue. Remember, if you need to contact us/me, you can do so on +353 86 1551616 from 9am on Saturday 24th.

How to get to Airfield, taken from their website

Luas: We all agree the Luas is not only efficient and an environmentally sound way to travel, it’s also fun!!! Take the Sandyford “Green” Line to Balally Station. When you get out of the station turn right, follow the Wyckham bypass up the hill swinging around to the right. Airfield is just ahead about 150 meters. It’s a quick walk and one well worth making!

Bus Stops / Routes: 75 and 86 stop outside Airfield 48A, 44 and 44B stop at Dundrum Village 11 and 11B stop at The Goat Grill

By Car: M50 Southbound: Take Exit 13, continue through the roundabouts for Dundrum till you pass TESCO, the road dips & you pass straight on through a junction. As the road rises & swings round to the right stay right. Airfield is on the right.
M50 Northbound: Take the exit for Dundrum, at the second crossroads turn right. The road runs fairly straight before swinging to the left. Airfield is on the left just past the bend.

From City Centre: Via Ranelagh, Clonskeagh, Goatstown, straight on through the Goat Grill junction and take the right at the second crossroads (set of traffic lights) for Upper Kilmacud Road. Continue straight ahead for a few minutes. Airfield is on the left hand side (look out for a brown fingerpost sign on the right).

My husband is the photographer but all I need is an excuse to take the kids to Airfield Farm. It should be easy to convince him :-)

Never knew such a place existed in the heart of Dublin. How did it survive the Celtic Tiger building boom? Looking forward to it.

Nice and close to home on this one for me. Apparently, the wife has wanted to go here for awhile.

So it will be me plus one.

I will probably have to give up my DSLR for the day. 8D

I’m in and will probably bring along the family as well. We go every spring to see the new animals and take a stroll around the gardens.
