A brilliant opportunity for some Woodland Photography and more. So break out your tripods and your stop-down filters and make Ireland green glow!

The photowalk to Templemore Town Park will take place on Saturday morning 11th. June at 9.30am.

Templemore park consists of over 90 acres of woodlands, with walks, and lake c. 5acres, and its associated wildlife. The park also includes a 14 century old church (An Teampall Mor) from which Templemore gets its name, and 13 century derelict castle known as the Black Castle.

It’s located only 100 metres from the Town Centre, with the entrance to the park in the town square itself. There is ample free parking in the park. In my opinion it is a natures photo studio, this park has been referred to as “one of irelands best kept secrets”.
It may not be of interest to photographers, but this park also includes, GAA field, Athlethic all weather track, 18 Hole pitch /putt course and club house. Enclosed new childrens play ground, and all-lweather adults excercise area, so it can be a family day out.

I envisage that the photowalk would be 1.5 hours or thereabouts. There are excellent places to have a coffee/ tea break,e.g. Cafe-on-main, Murphy’s, and Templemore Arms, all located within walking distance of this wonerful park.

Bloom returns 2011, this time its bigger and better and we have 20 media passes to give away. these passes allow for one photoblogger and one other photowalker to visit for the day of the actual walk, and unlimited access for the remaining 5 days!

Fancy a truly unique opportunity to flex your photographic muscles? Bord Bia might just have what you’re looking for this coming June with an organized Photowalk in the Phoenix Park.

This years photowalk will take place on the press morning of Thursday 2nd June at 10am at the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre. Participating Photobloggers* will receive a media pass for Bloom’s five days. How cool is that? 5 days of media-level access to a wonderful event!! To support this, Bloom has also setup a group on Pixie where we’ll gather the photos, so please feel free to join the group whether your part of the Photowalking group, sharing your own shots, or if you’re just interested to see what’s happening!

About Bloom “Bloom 2011, brought to you by Bord Bia,will take place in the Phoenix Park, Dublin from June 2nd to June 6th.

Bord Bia is delighted to announce the return of Bloom, Ireland’s leading flower, food and family festival, this June bank holiday weekend. Bloom 2011 will take place from Thursday, June 2nd to Monday June 6th at the Phoenix Park, Dublin. The event, which has attracted over 200,000 visitors since its inaugural staging in 2007, is set to be five days full of flowers, food and fun for all the family. Last year’s event was a spectacular success with record crowds and stunning show gardens.

Speaking of Bloom 2011 Gary Graham, Bloom Show Manager, Bord Bia said “our ambition to bring the best of Irish landscape creativity to the attention of the public are well placed; this year we have another raft of gardens that will inform, entertain and inspire. It’s a true testament to the creative genius that permeates Irish garden design; 100 plus amazing gardens over 4 years and yet we have another 25 striking and unique gardens in the pipeline for Bloom 2011.”

“Each and every year our designers are inspired by art, nature, fashion and society to create new and interesting designs. There will be strong competition for medals across all categories; small, medium, large and ‘engaging space’ gardens. Our ‘engaging space’ section has grown in popularity as it allows designers to stretch the boundaries of more traditional garden design principles in order to embrace important messaging around social issues. The involvement of organizations as Focus Ireland and the Asthma Society with show gardens ensures that Bloom is used, as it should be, to fully engage with the public and to challenge and to bring important issues to their attention” he added. “Yet again we have a mix of ‘Bloom veterans’ such as Oliver Schurmann, Tim Austen and Frazer McDonagh strutting their stuff at the 2011 show and they are joined by a number of ‘Bloom newbies’ who have entered ambitious and thought-provoking designs.”

Other key features for Bloom 2011 include a fabulous artisan food area, incorporating Ireland’s largest farmers market and the chef’s stage where the best of Ireland’s culinary geniuses will demonstrate throughout the weekend. The Craft Council of Ireland will be on hand to celebrate and promote the Year of Craft. The Office of Public Works (OPW), which provides the 70 acre site for Bloom, will once again open its walled kitchen garden to the public, which has been restored to its original Victorian style. The Showgardens will once again be complemented by a spectacular floral pavilion featuring 50 displays and the best of Irish plants and flowers and the Garden Expert Stage will also host a comprehensive range of leading experts in horticulture, gardening and floristry. Children can enter Bloom free of charge and this year the event will incorporate many interactive and family orientated attractions and activities.

In order to keep this fair we’ll be raffling off the tickets.

Bloom have specified that the ticket holder must be a photoblogger, so along with your name please comment with a link to your blog. However, if you don’t run a blog, fear not, on the day of the initial walk, we’ll be able to use these passes to bring along 20 additional photowalkers, so fill in your name on the list and we’ll try organising this in some manner, perhaps fill in a comment with (no blog) in it so we can organise the two lists.

This is during the week, so if you cannot attend on the opening morning please do not put your name down on the list.

Hi there Photowalkers,

I just wanted to let you all know that changes are in progress on the Photowalk.ie website that I sincerely believe will help to improve the services we provide and the overall reliability and access to the site itself.

Photowalk.ie is maintained by a loose group of individuals who give voluntarily of their time to help with the site and the organisation of the events and none of us really have the time to work on it as much as we would like. I know that many of you have had trouble registering, and that there are smarter and more intuitive ways of organizing the events in a calendar style. These, and other, areas will be getting attention over the coming weeks, so please do bear with us. Your continued feedback, recommendations and volunteerism is strongly encouraged!

The first key announcement is that Photowalk.ie will be moved to a professional hosting agency in the coming weeks and that this initiative will have a corporate sponsor who will cover our Year One costs. I’ll be announcing the sponsor very soon!

I’m really excited about this. Photowalk.ie has come a long, long way since it’s inception over a year and half ago and many great and lasting friendships have been made as a result. Certainly, the feedback is that people like this site and the walks to-date have been very successful. Heck, we were even nominated in the recent blog awards!

We can only grow from here, and sponsorship is a terrific way to ensure that the path to this growth is supported adequately. I hope you agree. Photowalks organised through this site will of course remain free and open to amateurs and professionals alike. If you love to shoot and meet likeminded photographers, then this will continue to be the place for you!

Keep an eye on the site for more great news coming soon!

Regards,

Stephen

Just a quick note to say thanks to those of you that attended one or more photowalks in 2010. As I said back in December 2009, it was my intent to organise one photowalk a month for the year and although it looked a bit ropey heading into the latter part of 2010, the one walk a month plan was successful. Or at least that’s what I’ll go around telling everyone anyway.

I hope you enjoyed the walks in 2010 and for those of you that came along for something other than a chat and to take some photos, I hope you learned something useful too.

Thanks again for the support,

One of the last of the year, an excuse to get up off the couch after stuffing yourself with turkey/ham/spiced beef/goose and get out for some photos. We'll take in a bit of snow and/or slush photography, street photography and whatever else presents itself.

Just so we get a walk in before the end of the year, this is a chance for any of you that haven’t been out to photograph the snow yet. That is, presuming the snow lasts until the 29th. It’s also a good chance for some street photography or whatever your own particular vices are.

Meet at 12 noon at Stephens Green gates (Grafton Street side). If nothing else, it’s a good excuse to get out for a few hours after Christmas and not spend another day on the couch eating a tin of roses and watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Hope the cold doesn’t put people off too much and that whoever can make it, makes it.

Post walk drinks will be had at Against The Grain on Wexford Street at pretty much whatever time we get finished. If you don’t feel like coming out with the camera, join us for a drink or a bite to eat afterward.

UPDATE 28th December: You’ll be looking for Keith (@yarrumk) tomorrow as I (@rymus) unfortunately won’t be able to make the walk. Time and place for meeting up hasn’t changed. Neither has the post walk drinks in Against The Grain on Wexford Street. Hope everyone that’s signed up makes it and has a great day.

Myself (David Ferrie) and Dan (king) are arranging a GOT (Grumpy Old Togs**) photowalk in County Wicklow:

Wicklow Photowalk Details
Date: Sunday 7th November 2010
Meeting: Bray Harbour @ 10am

We will start at the Harbour, just in case people want some Swan shots to fill their portfolio and will then stroll along Bray Promenade and up to the lower slopes of Bray head visiting Naylor’s cove and the start of the Bray-Greystones cliff walk. We will then return to the seafront for refreshments and for those interested we will travel to Avoca Copper Mines, returning to Bray in the evening and to finish the walk with drink & a chat in O’Driscoll’s pub on Bray Seafront.

Avoca Copper Mines

For the trip to Avoca copper mines, there are currently two cars traveling (myself and Dan), so we can offer transport for 6 people (or 8 people at squeeze) if anyone else is traveling by car, please let us know if you can offer transport from Bray to the mines (and back).

In reality, there is no max number for the Bray portion of the walk, at present (until other folk with cars speak up) there is a max of 8 places for trip to the Mines, first come first served.

Let us know if you can come and also if you can provide transport.

NOTE:

Just thought I should mention, that for the Avoca Mines portion of the walk it would be advisable to wear boot/strong shoes, the surface in many parts is loose gravel. If you intend walking to the mine head, long sleeved top/jacket would be good to protect from brambles etc. For folks bringing younger photographers (children) do bear in mind that there are drops and slopes of loose gravel – children are welcome but depending on age you will need to keep a close eye on them.

Well hello, gals and guys.

I’m organizing a photowalk for Saturday September 11 in conjunction with the Galway City hackperspace, 091 Labs.

Location: 091 Labs and Galway city centre, Galway City.
Time and Date: 10am to 6pm, Saturday September 11, 2010.
Meeting Point: The 091 Labs workspace at Exchange House, Fairgreen Road, Galway City (Maps).
What else: The 091 Labs building features restrooms, refreshments, bandwidth, comfortable chairs and shelter from the inclement weather if it turns against us. If you are interested in giving a talk (see below) in the afternoon, you are invited to bring along your laptop; we have a secure storage area to keep it until needed.
Getting here: We are immediately across the road from both the Irish Rail and Bus Eireann terminal and next door to the private coach terminal. If you don’t feel like driving yourself, Bus Eireann, Citylink and GoBus.ie all have direct, cheap bus services from Dublin to Galway.

There is a suggested donation of ten euros to 091 Labs. This will go toward helping pay their monthly bills.

My rough plan for the day is:

10am: We meet up at either Eyre Squre, or at the 091 Labs workspace. The workspace is next door to and across the road from (respectively), both of Galway’s bus (and train) terminals.

10:30am-2pm: The motley crew of photographer proceeds around the beautiful centre of this medieval city, dodging Saturday shoppers as they pursue the sublime, perfect photograph, and then down onto the bay for landscape/beach/portrait shots.

2pm: Back to 091 Labs for lunch. We have plenty of choice in the area from Centra and fast food all the way up to rather good restaurants.

3pm-6pm: For the rest of the evening we hold a series of talks/workshops on photography and photography topics.
Anything related to photography is welcome in these talks! Share your business tips, your shooting advice, your processing workflow, or even amusing rant, for between ten and thirty minutes. If you are so interested in speaking on the evening please contact me.
